Inspired by an image taken in 1961 of her father as an altar boy during a transatlantic trip to Italy, and heavily influenced by her grandmother's home textiles and personal style, Altars is a visual extension of familial history by Jenna Sararo.
As a visual artist, Jenna's interest lies in the beauty of found objects, textiles, and handcrafted materials. Through a tactile process of arranging, draping, and mixing materials, she has used photography to document the results or as a way to reveal something new. Portraits and repurposed textiles tell a visual narrative, unraveling that which endures through generations within shared experiences, touching on themes of memory and preservation.
