For more than two decades, Andrew Miksys has travelled across Lithuania documenting the lives of the Lithuanian Roma in a photography project titled BAXT—a Romani word meaning luck, fate, or fortune. One of his central subjects was Taboras, a long-standing Roma neighbourhood in Vilnius that was once home to nearly 500 people. Over time, the area was gradually dismantled by city authorities, with the last home demolished in 2020. Through BAXT, Miksys captured many of Taboras' homes before they disappeared, creating intimate portraits and preserving the stories of former residents.
BAXT will launch at Claire de Rouen Books on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
