Rodin is Thomas Lohr's second book, following Birds, a chromatically luxe compendium of close-ups of birds' feathers.
Published in an edition of 500 numbered copies, Rodin is, like Birds, a study in abstraction and detail. Invited by the Musée Rodin in Paris to photograph the sculptures there on the centenary of Rodin's death, Lohr's perceptual approach is particularly haptic.. Instead of showing us the works in their entirety, he presents fragments of them so that we're able to see the traces of sculptural processes on their surfaces, as well as the beauty of their expressive gestures.
text by Hélène Pinet, art direction and design by Daniel Baer, photography by Thomas Lohr, published 2017
Rodin launched at Claire de Rouen on Thursday 20 April 6 – 8pm.
