'Immolation is a book of photographs by Yanni Florence of people on fire. Not in flames running down the street screaming, but quietly burning. There is smoke coming from a man seen from behind as he waits to cross the road at the traffic lights. It looks like he is on fire. Self-combusting. Slowly burning up from the inside. He and others in this book are giving off smoke signals. The book is a studied selection of nineteen photographs from hundreds of photographs that were taken to decipher these signals.' (M.33)
