‘Us and Chem.’ is oversized, high gloss, mirrored and signed by Blondey..
It has been published to commemorate the exhibition of the same name held at HENI Gallery in 2017, and features all the works that were in the show.
In Us and Chem, Blondey confronts issues relating to mental health, in particular the country’s treatment of depression and anxiety in young people and the over-reliance on prescribed antidepressants. Many of the artworks in the exhibition featured mirror backgrounds, and in the book they are reproduced on foiled paper.
In both the exhibition and the book, these works constantly change depending on their surroundings, the audience and the angle from which they are viewed, creating a dynamic, interactive experience.
‘Us and Chem.’ includes a work created in collaboration with Damien Hirst: Beautiful, Chemically Imbalanced Painting, which is an amalgamation of Hirst’s Spin Paintings and Blondey’s collage. The book features the poem 'Us and Them' by Olly Todd, which is inspired by the exhibition.
