Mark Borthwick, Social Documentaries Amid this Pist

Social Documentaries was first published in 2002 by onestar press in a softback edition of 250 numbered copies. Later on, Mark made his own xerox photocopy version in an even tinier edition (the exact number is unknown, since Mark does not prioritise such things as numbers..)

Of the book, he writes:

'A social documentary.
An appropriation of distinctions between elements. Grey area. An essay in images that repeat themselves. An apparent way to dilute the importance of one over another.'

A rare and beautiful artists' book, containing fashion imagery, poetry, logo 'presentations', and more. An oneiric missive from a special mind..

first edition, self published in New York, 240 pages, some sunning, and a folder cover (the condition is reflected in the price).

Borthwick was born in London but lives with his partner, fashion designer Maria Cornejo, in Brooklyn, New York, where they have been based for more than 20 years. The early '90s were spent in Paris where he bought a nightclub and began making photographs for Purple magazine, which was founded there in '92. Music, travel, food, song, poetry and image are for Borthwick a creative and meaningful continuum.. Chance, beauty and the natural world are the tenets by which he lives and makes work.
