Mitch Cairns (b. 1984) is an Australian artist based in Sydney. The Reader's Voice is his second book, and was published to accompany the eponymous exhibition at Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne, in 2015-16.
The Reader's Voice is a suite of collages, made with pencil, letraset and Zazzle stickers, which explore thought and memory with economy and wit. Self-imposed rules, such as only using French (a language Cairns doesn't speak) or using letters to make images, produce a seemingly paradoxical quality of expressive freedom through constraint in the work's process.
